The Department of Marketing spotlights Jack Rodenberg – a student with a passion for Supply Chain Management, set to graduate in the Spring of 2024 here at Missouri State!
In the ever-evolving landscape of Supply Chain Management, aspiring professionals like Jack Rodenberg are carving their path to success. Hailing from the vibrant city of St. Louis, Missouri, Jack is on track to graduate from Missouri State University in the Spring of 2024 with a degree in Supply Chain Management and a minor in Data Analytics.
But Jack’s journey doesn’t stop at academia. He wears the hat of a Demand Planner at Bass Pro Shops, where his role goes beyond the textbooks. It involves creating precise forecasts, compiling analytical reports for promotional events, and seamlessly collaborating with various departments to execute Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP). We interviewed Jack to learn more about him, his professional endeavors, and his experience with the Marketing Department.
What ignites Jack’s passion in this demanding role is the art of making data-driven decisions. He thrives on uncovering patterns and trends that often remain concealed. As he puts it, “Forecasting and demand planning is simply putting your ability to make ‘least wrong judgments’ using historical data and qualitative factors. You make bets and do your best to quantify your confidence in those bets.” It’s about making informed choices, an invaluable skill in the business world.
Looking forward, Jack is focused on continued learning post-graduation. He aspires to become a Supply Chain Machine Learning Engineer, a profession that demands a profound understanding of data, analytics, and the intricate workings of the supply chain.
Jack’s advice is clear for aspiring students keen on gaining professional experience: “Focus solely on cultivating your passion for your chosen field, ask questions, and build your personal brand.” He believes that this is the key to success.
Jack’s interactions with the Marketing Department at Missouri State University have been incredibly positive. He’s felt supported in his studies and actively sought learning opportunities from knowledgeable professors.
The Marketing Department’s resources and initiatives have played a significant role in Jack’s academic and professional pursuits. Professors like Dr. Jackson Li and Courtney Pham were instrumental in guiding him. Dr. Ismet Anitsal, Department Head of the Marketing Department, mentored Jack in his MKT 494 class this past summer on a research project, “A Review of Machine Learning Applications: Emerging Trends and Challenges in Supply Chain Management,” and Jack recently presented the co-authored paper virtually at the Fall 2023 Institute of Global Business Research International Conference last month and won a Distinguished Research Award. Professor Gawon Yun (Supply Chain) played a crucial role in Jack’s journey by writing him a recommendation letter for CSCMP EDGE 2023, one of the largest Supply Chain Conferences in the US. With her support, Jack was sponsored to attend this remarkable event, where he gained valuable insights and represented the university among some of the brightest minds in the Supply Chain field.
As Jack moves towards the next phase of his journey, the world of supply chain management is gaining a rising star. With his dedication, passion, and data-driven approach, there’s no doubt he’s well on his way to making a significant impact in the field. Here at the Marketing Department, we eagerly look forward to following his journey and celebrating his future achievements. Good luck, Jack!
