Embarking on a journey of discovery and learning, students at Missouri State University’s Supply Chain Management program had the extraordinary opportunity to participate in David Hammons’ Study Abroad program. Led by David Hammons, Senior Instructor of Supply Chain Management, this immersive experience took students on a captivating exploration of global trade practices and cultural exchanges.
From January 2 to January 13, 2024, students embarked on a transformative journey across Morocco and Spain. The itinerary included visits to vibrant cities such as Tangier, Casablanca, Fes in Morocco, and Algeciras, Sevilla, Cordoba, and Cadiz in Spain. Throughout the program, students were exposed to a diverse range of trade practices, cultural traditions, and business opportunities.
A highlight of the program was the insightful meeting with the Chief of Territorial Promotion of InvestTangier on January 5, 2024. Students gained valuable insights into investment opportunities and the economic growth underway in Tangier, Morocco. Witnessing the bustling activity at Tangier Med, the largest container port in Africa, provided students with a firsthand understanding of port operations and global logistics.
Continuing their journey, students visited Fabrica de Sevilla on January 16, 2024, where they delved into business opportunities in Sevilla, Spain. Through engaging discussions and site visits, students gained valuable insights into the operational dynamics of companies in Sevilla and the potential for future collaborations.
The Study Abroad program also offered students immersive cultural experiences, such as touring an ancient leather tannery in Fes, Morocco, and learning about the intricacies of the carpet trade from local professionals. These experiences enriched students’ understanding of trade and culture at the intersection of Morocco, Spain, and the broader global marketplace.
Under the guidance of David Hammons, students not only expanded their academic knowledge but also cultivated a deeper appreciation for the complexities of international trade and cultural diversity. The Study Abroad program exemplifies Missouri State University’s commitment to experiential learning and preparing students for success in the dynamic field of Supply Chain Management.
