Upgrade Day – January 2, 2021

On Saturday, January 2, 2021, the following systems will be upgraded and therefore unavailable:

  • 12:00 a.m. – 12:30 a.m. – Internet for Springfield, West Plains and Mountain Grove campuses will be unavailable.
  • 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. – Phone services for Springfield campus will be unavailable intermittently.

There will be no impact to other systems such as: University networks, main websites, My Missouri State, Banner, Blackboard, Office 365, email services, CashNet, video surveillance systems, electronic door access systems, and the application for admission.

Audio Conferencing for Microsoft Teams

Good morning. Many of you received a message from Microsoft this morning stating, “Audio Conferencing for Microsoft Teams or Skype for Business Online has been turned off.”

MS Teams meetings are still available, but we no longer have the ability to dial-in to the meeting via a phone line. Earlier this year, when everyone was scrambling to work remotely, Microsoft made the audio conferencing feature available for everyone, regardless of their Office 365 license, for a 6-month period. You can read more about this service in our previous blog post. That 6-month period has now ended and this is why we are no longer able to use the MS Teams audio conferencing feature. If you would like to purchase audio conferencing for MS Teams, please contact the Computer Services Help Desk.

This DOES NOT IMPACT ZOOM Meetings. Our Zoom licenses include the audio conferencing option and the dial-in option is still available for them. If you would like to purchase a Zoom license, please contact Missouri State Outreach or use the Zoom Faculty and Staff Resources page for the request form.

We apologize for the confusion or concern that the email from Microsoft may have caused.

Upgrade Day – Saturday, August 8, 2020

On Saturday, August 8, 2020, the following systems will be upgraded and therefore unavailable:

  • 12:00 a.m. – 12:30 a.m. – Internet for Springfield, West Plains and Mountain Grove campuses will be unavailable.
  • 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. – Maintenance will be performed on the Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) that powers all servers in the Cheek Hall Computing Center. Users of the computing resources are encouraged to plan accordingly and not depend on uninterrupted services.

Most of the University’s computer systems will be down. There will be little or no impact to the following systems: University networks, MSU homepage, phone systems, Office 365, email services, video surveillance systems, electronic door access systems.

Electronic Fax Service Outage

The Electronic Fax service provided by the Networking and Telecommunications department is currently down. The service was being upgraded to eliminate failed fax transmissions that are caused by too many analog to digital conversions inherent in FoIP – Fax over Internet Protocol. Unfortunately, the upgrade unexpectedly caused the service to go offline. Local and vendor support staff are working as quickly as possible to restore services.

If you have urgent need to receive or transmit any faxes during this outage, please contact Steve Coffman at 417-836-4227 or Mark Harsen at 417-836-4392 to make special arrangements.

Internet Firewall Upgrade – Friday, April 17, 2020

On Friday, April 17, 2020, the following systems will be replaced with newer equipment and therefore unavailable:

  • 9:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. – All Internet access to and from the Springfield, West Plains and Mountain Grove campuses will be unavailable. Logging in to Blackboard and Office 365 from off campus will not work during this time, but the services will be available for previously logged in users.

Internet access for Commercial Network services such as those used by the eFactory downtown will not be affected. Other services not affected include phone systems, electronic door access and video surveillance systems.

To maintain the University’s technology infrastructure at the level required to ensure reliable and secure delivery of services and technologies, Information Services occasionally must update and replace equipment. Friday evening the firewall that protects the University network will be replaced with a newer model that will include additional security features as well as handle higher speeds.
