Gourds Planted

The station is exploring Gourds to be grown and dried for use as a value added product. On April 4 Luffa Gourd seeds were planted in the greenhouse. The luffa was planted in the High Tunnel on May 24. Raspberries shoot thinned today

Shelia waters the bagged raspberries after they have been thinned and moved into the high tunnel.

Fertilizing raspberries

Shelia and Jeremy are applying one tablespoon 14-14-14 osmocote to each bagged raspberry plant.

We removed the straw from the top of the bagged raspberries in mid-March. Today, Jeremy and Shelia fertilized each raspberry bag with 1 tablespoon of Osmocote 14-14-14. We recorded two raspberry bags of Crimson Giant did not have shoots or grow last year. Besides these two, it looks as though all of the raspberries have overwintered well into their sixth season. High Tunnel Update

Red Pontiac potatoes and yellow onions were planted in the high tunnel by our field crew on February 20th. These crops are purchased by us for use in our annual fish fries and other events. We also have some ginger and turmeric growing on a heat mat in the greenhouse and we will transfer this to the high tunnel just to have a store of the cultivars available. Bagged raspberries rotated out of the high tunnel today.
