Geology students get to explore in field study early

August 30, 2022 by Tracy Carroll

Professor Dr. Doug Gouzie lead the Geology, Speleology (GLG 350) class on a field trip to the Onondaga Cave State Park during the first week of the semester.

Students learned about limestone – dolomite cave formation, stalagmites, stalactites, and flow stone formations in the cave.

Students also viewed a unique feature, a shield formation.

The shield formation shows in the photo gallery as a roundish, almost white looking area on the cave wall.

Oh, and a salamander for the biology enthusiasts.

Thank you to James McDaniel, Master of Science candidate, Geospatial Science/Geology. James provided all of the photos in the gallery.
