Information Services Planned Upgrade Day Scheduled for January 2, 2019

Routine upgrades to the University’s mission critical networks and information systems are necessary to provide reliable and secure technology-related services. These upgrade activities are scheduled for times when the disruption to the University community are minimized. Plan accordingly, as the University’s networks and information systems will be unavailable during the upgrade period.

  • January 2, 2019 from 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. – University networks and the majority of information systems will be unavailable. Email and the Blackboard Learn systems will remain available.

Office365 service interruption

UPDATE:  While Microsoft continues to work on the problem, most users on campus are reporting success with the system now.

Interesting note:  The preliminary root cause was extreme weather in the San Antonio area which caused a data center issue affecting multiple Office 365 services.

Technology-related Services Interruption: Networking Infrastructure and Computing Center UPS Maintenance

The Information Services division periodically upgrades networking infrastructure and Computing Center components to provide optimal services. See below for details regarding the forthcoming upgrades:

• Saturday, August 11, from 7:00 a.m. through 7:00 p.m., the Networking and Telecommunications department will be upgrading redundancy capabilities throughout the University’s networking infrastructure. Repeated network outages of one to thirty minutes are expected throughout this entire time period.
• Saturday, August 11, from 7:00 p.m. until midnight, maintenance will be performed on the Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS) that powers all servers and networks in the Cheek Hall Computing Center.
Users of the network and computing resources are encouraged to plan accordingly and not depend on uninterrupted services Saturday, August 11, 2018 from 7 a.m to midnight.

Enterprise Resource Planning System – Computing Infrastructure Upgrade

The Information Services division periodically upgrades computing infrastructure components to provide optimal services.  See below for details regarding a forthcoming upgrade:

  • Friday, July 27, starting at 6:00 p.m., Computer Services will upgrade the computing infrastructure required to host the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system’s Operational Data Store (ODS) and Electronic Data Warehouse (EDW).  The ODS/EDW Argos reporting feature will be unavailable for use from 6:00 p.m. on Friday, July 27 through 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 29.

The ERP Banner and Blackboard systems will be available for use during this upgrade period. Departments and users of the ODS/EDW Argos reporting feature are encouraged to plan accordingly and not depend on uninterrupted services during this time period.
